Rethymnon - Moni Arkadiou - Margarites

This day trip takes you to Crete’s intellectual capital Rethymnon with its Turkish and Venetian architecture in the historic quarter. On your way back to Malia pay a visit to the beautiful monastery of Arkadhi, followed by a stop in the pottery village Margharites with its fine earthenware.


Hania, capital of the prefecture of the same name and with 60,000 inhabitants Crete’s second biggest town, is proudly presented as the island’s most atmospheric city. It is a great place for going out and enjoying the good life, with lots of shops to browse and excellent restaurants. Traces of its Venetian and Turkish past, with little fountains and elegant mansions, mosques and minarets are evident everywhere as you walk through the picturesque alleys and the harbour.

Gorge of Samaria

Anybody who feels up to it, has a good pair of legs and sturdy shoes should dedicate one day of his holidays to walking the Samaria gorge. This national park is situated in the Lefka Ori of south-west Crete, in the prefecture of Hania and covers a surface area of 5,100hectares. Its gorge of 18km. length is claimed to be the longest in Europe and is guaranteed to lead you through breathtaking scenery.
